BILLA AG

BILLA AG is an Austrian food retailing company and belongs to REWE International. The company was founded in 1953 by Karl Wlaschek. Wlaschek introduced the self-service system to the food sector and called his stores BILLA from 1961 onwards (a name which stands for the German "Billiger Laden", or "cheap store" in English). As of 2016, BILLA operates 1,050 branches in Austria and employs around 18,400 members of staff.
